Baseline · Why Swish

Coach Bill Formella talks a small group of Swish players through a drill at half court
“There’s a reason so many girls drop out of the game. It’s simply not fun if you’re not comfortable and confident on the court.”

Bill Formella, founder

“There are some players that are destined to succeed no matter where they go and who they train with. The real test is in seeing what can be done with the players nobody else gets excited about!”

What happens on the floor.

  1. ShootingTaught with the Pro Shot System.
  2. Ball handling and footworkRepeated until she trusts them.
  3. Reading the gameWhere to be, what to look for, and why.
  4. 3v3 scrimmagesPart of a normal skills session, with the teaching.
  5. 3v3 game nightsA separate add-on: a chance to play beyond the normal skills sessions.

Parents ask.

Is the skills program a league?

No. There are no standings or seeding in the skills program, so coaches spend the time on individual improvement instead of preparing to win Saturday.

Will she be on a team?

In the skills program she trains with a group of girls her age. If she wants a roster and a season, that's our competitive teams: a separate path.

How do games work in the skills program?

Normal Swish skills sessions use teaching and 3v3 scrimmages. The developmental 3v3 events are the separate game-night opportunity.

Does she need experience?

No. Girls who have never played are exactly who the skills program is built for.

Is this right for every girl?

Not always. If she wants a full tournament season, ask Bill about competitive teams. He'll tell you straight what fits.

She had never played basketball prior to this and we did not even own a basketball… Other parents have come up to me and asked how long my daughter has played the game and, when I tell them 2 years, they are shocked.”
Lori S. Lawrenceville, GA
“What you have done for my daughter's skills and confidence is simply amazing… As a 7th grader, she not only made her middle school team but was a starting guard for every game.”
D.B. Duluth, GA

From a letter of recommendation

“Bill has been working with Forsyth County since 2019 as an independent contractor and renter. We started with a few Swish clinics and have since expanded to include a long-running program, school break camps, small leagues, and tournaments.”
